Radio IITA, broadcasting at 88.5FM, serves as a beacon of agricultural enlightenment in the bustling city of Ibadan, Nigeria. Recently, the station embarked on a transformative three-day survey outreach, venturing through the diverse landscapes of Ibadan to forge direct connections with farmers and listeners, thereby amplifying its impact on agricultural knowledge dissemination.

Under the guidance of Dajie Odok, Radio IITA’s Team Lead, this initiative marks a significant milestone in the station’s overarching mission to foster awareness and literacy about advanced agricultural technologies. By immersing themselves in the grassroots, Radio IITA endeavors to tailor its programming to address the specific needs and challenges agricultural communities encounter directly.

The outreach journey commenced with unwavering zeal as the Radio IITA team set their first footfall at Ajibode Juncture. They received a warm response that resonated with the station’s unique broadcast style. Noteworthy were the suggestions, including requests for programming diversification to include additional languages such as Hausa, Efik, and Igbo, indicative of Radio IITA’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity and responsiveness.

Day two witnessed the campaign forging into the Ojoo-Barrack area, where residents and business owners actively engaged in dynamic discussions with the Radio IITA team. At the Akingbile community, invaluable feedback poured in, acknowledging the station’s pioneering role in disseminating agricultural information while advocating for extended broadcast hours to cater to diverse audience needs.

On the third day, the audience from the Sasa Market and Moniya Market eagerly participated in the survey. Their testimonies resonated with the profound impact of Radio IITA’s broadcasts in Yoruba. These broadcasts kept them abreast of agricultural innovations and instilled a deeper commitment to the agricultural sector.

The pinnacle of the outreach unfolded with the visit to the farmers’ cooperative representatives in Akinyele Local Government, marking the culmination of Radio IITA’s Community Survey Outreach. This visit served a triple-fold purpose: engaging with local farmers to understand their challenges firsthand, gaining valuable insights into the agricultural landscape, and highlighting the impactful work being done to address agricultural issues in the community.

As Radio IITA continues to extend its reach and influence, initiatives like the survey outreach serve as poignant reminders of the station’s unwavering dedication to empowering farmers and driving positive change within the agricultural sector.

Through dynamic engagement and inclusive programming, Radio IITA persists in sowing the seeds of knowledge, nurturing a brighter future for agriculture in Nigeria and Africa.
