RadioIITA 88.5 FM has collaborated with the Wild Africa to premiere a new bi-weekly radio program, Conservation Focus, aimed at raising awareness about wildlife conservation and environmental issues in Nigeria. The show, anchored by conservationist Dajie Odok, is designed to bring attention to the vital role forests, birds, and conservationists play in preserving the countryโs biodiversity.
The inaugural episode of Conservation Focus aired to an enthusiastic audience, exploring Nigeria’s urgent wildlife and forest conservation challenges. The guest speaker, Festus Iyorah, Nigerian Representative for Wild Africa Fund, highlighted the alarming impacts of deforestation, illegal hunting, and habitat destruction on Nigeriaโs ecosystems. “Nigeriaโs wildlife is under serious threat, but itโs not too late to reverse the damage,” said Festus during the discussion. “Through community engagement, education, and sustainable practices, we can protect these vital ecosystems for future generations.”
โWild Africa is expanding its campaign beyond Lagos to other states in Nigeria, and radio remains one of the most effective ways to connect with new audiences due to its widespread accessibility. Through RadioIITA, particularly with its work promoting IITA Forest Center, which focuses on forest protection and conservation in Nigeria, our campaign will resonate with diverse audiences listening to the radio in Southwest Nigeria and its environs. By leveraging these efforts, we aim to raise awareness and drive action towards preserving Nigeria’s forests and forests” he said.
Conservation Focus, in addition to its insightful discussions, features segments like conservation facts, quizzes, and recommendations for films, documentaries, and podcasts about conservation. The program’s unique format is designed to inspire support for local conservation efforts, especially among Nigeriaโs youth and families. By engaging with the show, the audience becomes an integral part of the solution, empowered to make a difference in Nigeria’s conservation landscape.
