Over the past five years, RadioIITA has played a crucial role in agricultural extension, providing farmers with essential information on best practices, pest management, crop rotation, and new agricultural technologies. Its widespread reach has ensured that even the most remote farming communities receive the knowledge needed to enhance productivity and sustainability.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) marked a significant milestone with the celebration of RadioIITA’s 5th anniversary and the launch of IITA TV. The event, held at the IITA headquarters in Ibadan, brought together key stakeholders, partners, and staff to commemorate the communication officeโ€™s achievements in supporting CGIARโ€™s agricultural development across Africa.

In her remarks, Katherine Lopez, Head of the IITA Communication Office, noted that the office has continued to support IITA with effective communication tools, ensuring the dissemination of agricultural information across Africa. Represented by Lilian Mendoza, Lopez expressed her gratitude to all who participated in celebrating this important milestone. “Our mission of disseminating agricultural knowledge to farmers is being realized, and we look forward to many more years of serving farming communities across Africa,” she stated.

In his address, IITA Director-General Dr Simeon Ehui emphasized the significance of RadioIITA’s five-year milestone, noting that the launch of IITA TV would be another powerful tool for disseminating agricultural information and connecting with stakeholders. “With both TV and radio, the visibility of IITA is further amplified,” Ehui said, urging the communication team to continue their excellent work and stay at the forefront of the communication world. He acknowledged the importance of adapting to new technologies and increasing IITA’s visibility.

Oyo State Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade, also congratulated the IITA Communication Office on the launch of IITA TV and the anniversary of RadioIITA. He praised the landmark achievements but added, “There is still more work to be done.” He expressed optimism about the continued collaboration between the Oyo State Ministry of Information and the IITA Broadcast team, aiming for a more fruitful relationship in disseminating agrarian news throughout the state.

Koper-Limbourg, Hilde IITA Deputy Director General -Corporate Services, called for continued support for IITA TV and RadioIITA to ensure they fulfill their mandates. Tolu Olabode, the IITA TV lead, highlighted that the online-based television would leverage modern technology to showcase IITA’s research findings, innovations, and programs.

On her part, Dajie Odok, RadioIITA Lead, reaffirmed the team’s commitment to providing accessible, accurate, and practical information that supports sustainable rural development.

Dajie also spoke about the station’s successes in empowering farmers by sharing IITAโ€™s research innovations, improved seed varieties, and promoting sustainable farming techniques to enhance livelihoods through the stationโ€™s farmersโ€™ outreach project.

With these new milestones, the Communication Office is celebrating past successes and setting the stage for future achievements and innovative approaches to ensure that IITA continues to serve farming communities across Africa, driving agricultural transformation and development.
