𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

RadioIITA 88.5 recently hosted a successful farmers’ outreach event in collaboration with the maize improvement program. The event, held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), aimed to equip local farmers with advanced agricultural knowledge and practices. It drew a significant number of eager participants looking to enhance their maize farming techniques.

The outreach program provided a comprehensive learning experience by combining informative sessions with practical field training. This approach ensured that participants gained theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in implementing advanced agronomic practices.

In her opening remarks, Dajie Odok, RadioIITA’s Lead, emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing within the farming community. She encouraged participants to apply the techniques they learned and relay this valuable knowledge to fellow farmers in their respective communities.

During his address, Dr. Meseka Silvestro, a scientist associated with the maize improvement program, highlighted the significance of proper agronomy practices. His insights gave farmers essential strategies to optimize maize production and improve crop yields.

Ojo Tayo, senior researcher at IITA, expressed his appreciation to the participants and looked forward to more farmers adopting the new systems and technologies developed by IITA in the coming year. He emphasized the potential for these innovations to transform agricultural practices and improve food security.

One of the participants, Ololade Abdulizeze, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity provided by RadioIITA. He mentioned that he learned many new agronomic practices to apply to his farming work. He also advised fellow farmers to be consistent in their efforts and continue learning to ensure future progress.

The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm and dedication among the participants, who are now poised to transform their farming practices for better outcomes. This outreach initiative marks a significant step forward in promoting sustainable agriculture and empowering local farmers with the tools they need for success.
